Winter 2026 Canskate program registration is open!
Canskate is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program designed for beginners of all ages (Ages 3+). Canskate programs focus on FUN PARTICIPATION and basic skill development. Coaches provide active sessions using visual aids and music to create a fun, stimulating and welcoming environment. In this 10 week program, Skaters earn badges and other incentives as they learn fundamental movement and basic skating skills. Report cards, ribbons and badges are awarded as kids progress through the various stages. Lessons are given in a group format led by NCCP certified professional coaches.
CCSC is pleased to offer three CanSkate programs to meet a variety of needs:
Pre-CanSkate (Ages 3-5. Skater must be turning 3 before September 15 for Fall session)
CanSkate (Ages 5+)
1 & 2: Skaters are expected to be able to participate in the session without parents or guardians on the ice.
Parent & Tot (registered adult on ice with skater)
Our Pre-CanSkate and Parent & Tot programs are designed to introduce children with little to no skating experience to skating and get them comfortable in skates and on the ice.
Parent & Tot allows a designated adult to be on the ice with the skater as they participate in group lessons and progress through the program. Adults must be able to skate unassisted. Each skater is required to have one registered adult accompany them during the class. Both skater and adult are registered participants. The accompanying adult must be able to skate unassisted and will provide support for the skater.
Skate Canada requires all Canskate participants to wear a CSA approved hockey helmet while on the ice. Helmets can be purchased from your preferred vendor using our flipgive passive fundraising program by using this LINK. The accompanying adult must wear skates and CSA-approved helmets are mandatory for all adults. It is strongly recommended that accompanying adults are confident skaters. Mittens or gloves are highly recommended for comfort.
Program Format - 10 week program (non contiguous)
Coaches - Lessons are given in a group format and are led by NCCP Certified Professional Coaches. Coaches are also assisted by trained Program Assistants.

5 minutes - Set up (no skaters on the ice)
5 minutes - Warm up in a large group with music.
30 minutes - Designated Groups taught by Coaches (Groups are divided by Level and Age)
5 minutes - Cool down in a large group to music.
Evaluation - is done throughout the 30 minutes of group time. Skaters will receive a report card at the end of the program.
Equipment - Skaters joining our CanSkate programs should have the following equipment:
1. CSA Approved Helmet. CSA approved hockey helmets are mandatory for ALL CanSkaters
The helmet fit should be snug

† Ice cancellations and reallocation ⛸️
Special events - such as hockey tournaments - affect regular ice allocations for all clubs and leagues in the City by disrupting schedules across all arenas. Our ability to reschedule this lost ice time is strictly limited to the times and locations offered by the City, which is managing ice for hundreds of stakeholders. CCSC’s priority is to select reallocation ice options that best suit the majority of our membership and our coaching availability from the limited options offered by the City. Refer to the posted monthly calendar and our Facebook Page frequently for updates. Please note that rescheduled sessions may not align with your regular day, time, or location. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
